how i spent my weekend...

This necklace charm is actually one of the most expensive spoons I have purchased. It was $5.00. I hope it is worth it.

This is the braclet I made from my left over charms from the charm swap. I have been wearing this one, so I guess I will keep it. That way when people ask me why I am hording old silverware, I have an example.

I think I am addicted to buy old silverware now. On ebay (I swore I would never ebay again) I just put a bid in on a lot of 192 pieces of old silverware. Do you think there is a support group for this?

-65°

I am sitting at my desk at work right now and I am pretty sure it is -65° in here. I stole Katie's heater. (Sorry, I will return it tomorrow) Cold weather like this always makes we think about homeless people. My mom always wanted to invite them over. (I'm not sure where she was going to get them, but she always wanted to help them.) Maybe that is why they are always on my mind when its -65° out.

Hoping for heat at work tomorrow. I can't feel my mouse hand, it is forzen.

new glasses

My new glasses arrived on Saturday. A few days earlier than expected. A fun surpirse! Of course they are my signature blue/brown. So far I think my eyes like them.

I worked on jewelry all weekend. I completed a quite a few pieces. I tried to take a picture to post but the flash was not cooperating. I will have to wait for daylight tomorrow to get a better photo. Oh well, at least I will have some photos to blog with tomorrow :)

A Friday thought of the day...

A lot of the blogs I read everyday are from designer people like me. Have you ever noticed that designers can not blog without a photo?

a good book and no sleep

After visiting with my very cool friend Rani and her kids, and eating way more Chinese food than we should have, I ended my eveing with a book. I love to read. My favorite thing in the summer was when I bookmobile came to our tiny town. I mostly love anything sappy. I guess I am a girly-girly. Rani let me borrow Tammy Trent's book. She is a christian singer/artist who recently lost her husband on a vacation trip to Jamaica. Her story is heart wrenching!

I started reading at about 9. I was only going to read a couple chapters and go to bed.
10:00 pm - ok, just one more hour and I'll stop reading.
11:00 pm - oh, I am more than half way done I might as well keep going.
12:00 am - if I keep going, I know I can finish before 1:00 am.
12:45 am - I finished the book and had a good cry.

So today I gues I am a little tired and inspired by her book. I also learned that my logo frustration from yesterday means nothing. And there are a lot more important things in life than design. A good thing for me to remember :)

one trick pony?

Ok, so these are my new shoes I purchased yesterday. Do you know why I love them so? They are blue/brown! Do I have any variety in my life? Apparently not. Yesterday, was also my eye appointment. So I am standing in the middle of all the cool frames, trying to pick out the coolest ones. I had it narrowed down to 4 and then down to 2. The final 2 were a purple and orange combo and you guessed it a blue and brown pair. I was trying so hard to resist my down fall. I had convinced myself I should try something new and go with the purple and orange pair. Then...the guy who worked there convienced me how much better the blue/brown where. How they fit better and how the shape was better for me. So, even when I try to resist...blue and brown is just ment to be part of my life. The guy who worked there also said...I don't know where this blue and brown combo is coming from, it must getting popular, maybe from fashion. Oh, if only he knew!!!! I will post a photo of my glasses when they arrive in about a week. Anticipation...

shopping-palooza!

Saturday was thrift store mania! I had so much fun with my cool friends. We pretty much shopped all day and we were exhaused afterwards. I stocked up on some very cool silverware. We found most of it at our first stop for 10 cents a piece! What a great price. There are a few newer pieces, some with monograms and some really cool old pieces. I can't wait to get started. I think I will go home tonight and start cutting them.

cool stuff...

I found this really cool website/blog the other day. It is: http://www.rarebirdfinds.typepad.com/
It is kind of like shopping paradise. Each day new cool products are added. There are so many I want!
Happy shopping.

25 charms

I have completed my charms! I am so excited. It is a little sad sending them off. But I am so excited to receive 25 cool charms in return. I did design a little packaging for each charm. I just could not help myself. And yes I used my 2 favorite colors. I know I need help and I have an addiction to blue and brown, but it just seemed to work the best with the silver. (B. I know what you are thinking...)

I also took a little trip to the coolest store in downtown Sioux Falls today. Katie and I have purchased multiple pieces of Jewelry at Archival Elements. (http://www.archivalelements.com/) Stacie has the coolest stuff. I showed her my charms and she wants to sell them. I am so excited!!! And a little scared that no one will actually want them. But she seemed excited about them. So for round 2: 20-25 more charms done by March first. This is going to be fun.

:)

charm swap...

A couple of months ago I joined a charm swap online. One person is the hostes. Artists from all over the world, send in 25 hand made charms and then they recieve 25 different charms back. So I spent the weekend working on my charms (they are due January 31). My inspiration came one evening empting the dishwasher. I should make charms out of old silverware. It is wearable, it won't break and alot of the designs are beautiful. Next step shopping. This is a fun step. I went to a couple junk/anitque stores and found just what I wanted. A tub full of old tarnished silverware! Two for 50 cents. Now reality sets in. How do I pull this off? Dad?

Dad is my go to guy. All of my crazy projects need an advisor. So we cut down all the silverware with giant metal cutters. The rule is they can't be more than an inch and a half in size. I spent the weekend sanding and smoothing them with the Dremel tool. I am so excited to get them done. Stay tuned for photos.

I can't wait to receive my 25 charms. I think they will make the coolest bracelet!

a winter evening project

This is the fireplace Dad and I have just recently finished. I think one of the things I love most about it is...more decorating space! Last night I took down the feather Christmas trees and re-decorated. This print has been sitting on my desk at work for about a month. I ordered it online from one of my favorite artists, Sabrina Ward Harrison. Last night I made a trip to Hobby Lobby (I'm not sure what I would do without that store). I bought the frame and the mat, and finally completed the project. The very cool vases are from my cool Paulsen friends. They gave them to me for my birthday. Now my living room is happy. Maybe I should clean the rest of the house this weekend so it feels as good.

a logo day

Today has been a logo day. A logo day of Hostas. Any day is a good day when it consists of creating a logo that does not involve cow poop, cows licking barrels and various other non-pretty items. Finally a pretty logo day :)

a bargain & happiness
Todays lunch was a trip to Target with KL. We were feeling a little low, because the tv spot we just completed did not turn out as cool as it was in our heads. Target to the rescue! I bought a winter coat (pictured above) for $15.00! Wow do they know how to make a girl feel good.

new year...new blog
Ok, I have been ignoring my other blog for sometime now. It has been brought to my attention that maybe I should write something. My other blog resides on my laptop which I may or may not have at work. Whenever something blog-able happens my laptop is at home. So I decided to move my blog here so I can blog when the good ideas hit me.

The photo above is the knitting project I just completed. It is a baby blanket. Christy my hairstylist, has endured my ever changing hair/crazy ideas for 8 years, 7 months. Her baby is due in Feburary and she is becoming a stay at home mom. This causes me great pain. I like my life with all its parts filled in. Work, house, family and hair. I wanted to give her a gift, but what? So I decided to knit her a baby blanet. It sounded like a great idea until Sunday night at 11:30 pm when I was still tying on the fringe. But I made it. Monday at 4:30 pm was my last hair cut/color from the best hair stylist in the world. So now I am trying to move on. Michael is up next. I hope he can handle my crazy hair.

Enjoy the new blog!
